Fall Reading Preview

I went to the bookstore yesterday and came home with three new reads:

1. The Greatest Story Ever Sold by New York Times Reporter Frank Rich. Read the first chapter of the book here. Also, if you are interested, read Rich's New York Times article blasting President Bush's 'Path to 9/11' speech here. Thanks to Mom for the referral.

2. Chuck Klosterman IV: A Decade of Curious People and Dangerous Ideas by pop culture journalist, critic and essayist Chuck Klosterman. Here's a blog dedicated to Klosterman with links to all his work. Thanks to MJS for the referral.

3. Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big by Jose Canseco. I go in with an open mind, even if the guy is a clown. Here's an excerpt from Canseco's '60 Minutes' interview discussing the themes of his book. Thanks to Bud Selig for being greasy.

I'm excited. Cheers!

Plath was an excellent poet but is known to many for this largely autobiographical novel. The Bell Jar tells the story of a gifted young woman's mental breakdown beginning during a summer internship as a junior editor at a magazine in New York City in the early 1950s. The real Plath committed suicide in 1963 and left behind this scathingly sad, honest and perfectly-written book, which remains one of the best-told tales of a woman's descent into insanity.

Looks like a good read.
